From Shanghai with Love

Posted: March 3rd, 2010 | Tags: , , , | 1 Comment »

Sally and Carl are a lovely couple from Shanghai. They had their wedding back home in China but wanted New Zealand location shots. Laura from Mint Events liaised with them to get the best out of the day by finding the right locations for the look they wanted.

They showed me some images they liked and it turned which were from an American photographer, regarded as one of the Top 10 wedding photographers in the world, so no pressure!

We had a fun day around Queenstown shooting a variety of locations and enjoying the beautiful weather. The images came out great and exactly what they wanted.

A lovely Dunedin Wedding

Jill and Michael are an amazing couple who moved to NZ a month before their wedding after living for over 15 years in Dubai and Asia! They got married in a quaint church in Warrington and had the reception at their house.

We had a fun day shooting and did the location shots down on the beach and the surrounding areas. The train track was on the way and I love the way the lines work in the images.

I found the rock landscape on one side of the beach and Jill, a keen climber, was out on the rocks in her high heels before I even had the gear out of my car!  Being a busy weekend the beach had a few too many people on it for my liking so it paid to have my 4WD so we could access some quieter spots for the shoot.

Commercial job for AWS Legal

I have been shooting new images for AWS Legal, including shots of the latest addition to the AWS Wanaka Branch, Mike Toepfer. We did a few different location shots and a few studio shots before heading out and taking some casual shots with a road bike. Mike is really in to road biking but his bike hadn’t arrived for the shoot, so Racers Edge was very helpful and set us up with a great bike so we could get the shot done.

A sunny and warm Wanaka Wedding

Sophie and Chris had a stunning day in Wanaka for their wedding. There was not a cloud in the sky and it was close to 30 degrees! I was with Sophie on the morning to cover the make up and getting ready and after that we had some spare time before the ceremony so we took some quick shots of the girls at the lakefront before heading over to Maple Lodge for the ceremony. After the ceremony a helicopter picked us up to go for some scenic shots up in the mountains. I really like the way we got the snowcapped mountains in the background. I always get blown away on how beautiful it is up there. We had plenty of time after the shoot so they could enjoy the surroundings and the big day before heading back down to Maple lodge for the reception.

Casey and Glen booked my over a year ago and i have been looking forward to shoot the wedding. They are such a great couple and was a pleasure to shoot. The girls had the hair done at Chocolate and make up by Gena Bagley . They all got dressed at a private house. The ceremony was at Glendhu which is one of the prettiest locations to get married in Wanaka. They had a marquee on the lakefront for the reception. We did location shots at Glendhu bay and then helishots up in the mountains. Casey was worried about the rain and how good the photos could get it the weather. I knew they would come out great as I am used to shoot in any condition and we managed to get they all done in 5 minutes and I know a few of them will be award winning! When we got down to the lakefront again we did some additional shots with Casey’s horse “Indian. Another great Wanaka Wedding.

Cover shot of Wine maker Nick Mills from Rippon wines

I shot the cover and feature of Nick Mills for Young Country Magazine about a month ago and it was great fun. We ended up shooting a lot of different stuff and Nick told me all about how the work is done at Rippon. Another fun thing is that Nick was a member of the NZ freestyle team at the same time as i was in the Swedish National team so we have trained and competed against each other in the World cup and Europa cup.

Louisa and Tim escaped and had a wonderful wedding in Queenstown. The ceremony was planned to be up in the mountains but after getting out of the helicopter they had to change the plans. We did some quick fun shots in the wind and rain before heading back to Stoneridge Estate and the sun to do the ceremony.

Jess and Jason got married at the St Columbus Church in Wanaka and had the reception at Look out Lodge. Jess father is the local reverand at the church and walked his daughter to the aisle and held the ceremony. We went for location shots at Wanaka Station park and had a surprise helicopter waiting for them at Edgewater Resort for some alpine images up on Mt Roy before flying to Lookout Lodge where guest were waiting. On arrival friends of the groom  performed a powerful Haka.
